Common problems with AeroPress coffee brewing

Sometimes your coffee doesn’t tase as good as you expectes, it may taste bitter or sour – those are the most common issues. When your coffee doesn’t taste quite right, there are several different things to look at: the coffee to water ratio; the water temperature; the coarseness of grind; the brewing time and finally the type of roast.

Why does my AeroPress coffee taste bitter?

If your AeroPress coffee has a bitter taste, it’s likely to be due to over extraction. How to fix it? Try to use a coarser grind, longer extraction time or a lighter roast.

Why does my AeroPress coffee taste sour?

The sourness in your coffee is the opposite  problem to bitterness – it’s most likely to be caused by under extraction. How to fix it? Try a finer grind or longer extraction. Another thing to look at is the darkness of the roast. If your coffee is still sour, try a darker roast.
